Day 4: What do you love the most about teaching?
I love my students (most of the time). I love making them love Spanish. I love seeing them be successful. I love the month of May in Spanish 1, and the knowledge of I taught them every bit of Spanish they know! I love watching them fly and leap through the novice proficiency levels. I love proving to them, yes, you CAN understand when I speak Spanish. Yes, you CAN read this dialogue in Spanish. Yes, YOU CAN SPEAK Spanish! I love the challenge of teaching engaging classes, and the adventure of textbook-free teaching. I love how my students ask me questions that I don’t know the answers to, and make me search WordReference and text my Mexican friends to learn how to say wavy hair, hazel eyes, and every other shade-of-gray vocabulary word that you’ll never find in a textbook vocabulary list. I love learning how to teach better, and how to assess in authentic ways, and how everyday in my classroom is an experiment. I love that teaching means I’m never done learning.
