Here’s my bracket bulletin board:
I want to do a different activity each round – maybe a cloze, a lyrics ordering activity, a reading about the artists, learning the coro, matching the meaning, describing the song, giving your opinion on why you like it, etc. We started today with La lista and Tengo tu love. Both songs are new to my students, and they loved them! Alas, there can only be one winner, and Tengo tu love took the victory:

Tengo tu love was our over all winner last year
I think it’s a great idea and I know your students will love it. I think it’s our responsibility too to present songs that have positive, good messages. I would really struggle letting my students listen to a song like Propuesta Indecente. What we are teaching through the meaning of the lyrics is equally important; even if they don’t understand the lyrics. There’s plenty of great music out there that kids enjoy that have great messages in the lyrics.
Honestly, I was in a hurry to get my bulletin board up so my kids would understand the concept and copied Bethanie’s list without too many changes. I may still switch some. What are some of your class favorites? I am open to suggestions.
I do it a little differently as we vote on artists and not songs. We listen to portions of the artists’ songs every day during the tournament and then vote. I create a Google Form with the videos and a way for students to votE. Students vote in class and outside if they want. Some of their favorite songs: Jesse & Joy – Ser o Estar, Llegaste Tú, Juanes – La historia de Juan, Juntos, Vazquez Sounds – Me Voy, Me Voy, Volaré, Julieta Venegas – Eres Para Mi, and of course Tengo tu Love.

I’m doing this too! I noticed that the majority of the songs that @lovemysummer used were on Billboard Latino’s Top 20. When I do it next year, that’s what I’ll use. I took out a couple of the songs (like Propuesta Indecente) that I felt were not appropriate for me to introduce to students.
My students are LOVING Manía Musical!
What did you replace it with? I haven’t screened all the songs yet and may still switch a few out.
